Digital Window Displays: Window Display Screens That Read in Daylight
A digital window display faces the sidewalk through glass, so it has to beat daylight on that glass. Seven Samsung and LG window panels on the store, from $2,750, with what we've learned hanging them in places like the LeSportsac SoHo flagship.

Picking the size
Measure the window bay first. Portrait is the default for storefronts because it fits between mullions and reads like a poster. In portrait, an OM55B stands 49.3 inches tall and 28.5 inches wide; an OM75A stands 67 inches tall. A 75 needs a window head at least 7 feet up once you add a stand.
Then think about who's looking. People walking past are 6 to 15 feet away and give the screen a couple of seconds. At that distance a 55 reads fine and a 46 is enough for a narrow bay. The 75 is for corner windows and wide frontages where the screen has to hold its own against the whole facade.
Two 55s often beat one 75. Janie and Jack runs two OM55Bs per window: $5,500 in screens against $9,565 for one OM75A.
Brightness, glass and heat
The direction the window faces decides the brightness. South and west glass with no awning wants 4,000 nits: the OM46B, OM75A or any LG XS4P. North and shaded windows do fine at 3,000 with an OM55B. The full table is in our nits guide.
Tinted and low-E glass cuts what reaches the sidewalk. Ask for the glass's visible light transmission figure. At 60% VLT, 4,000 nits behind the glass looks like about 2,400 from outside.
Heat is the other half. Samsung rates the OM series 24/7 from 0 to 40 °C. Leave the back of the window bay open to the store's air conditioning instead of boxing the screen in with a sealed display wall.
Windows we've done

About Herman Miller: we show it because people ask whether a regular 500-nit panel can work in a window. It can work when the screen sits back inside a lit showroom rather than against the glass, and the QM75C costs $6,366 less than an OM75A. Pressed against sunny glass, it would wash out.
Power, network and content
Get an outlet in the window bed before install day. Floor stands need a floor or base outlet, ceiling hangs need one above the drop ceiling. Typical draw is 350 W for an OM46B and 450 W for an OM55B on Samsung's data, so two panels on a shared retail circuit is worth a check.
Every OM and XS4P has a built-in player and an Ethernet port, and the OM models have Wi-Fi. Content for windows is simpler than people expect: one message per screen, big type, a few seconds per slide. Dim the screens after dark; full brightness at night glares at the street.

Digital window display questions
What is a digital window display?
A digital window display is a commercial screen built to face the street from behind a store window, running at 3,000 to 4,000 nits so it stays readable in daylight, against about 500 for a normal indoor signage screen, and rated for long hours behind warm glass. The Samsung OM series and LG XS4P are the ones we sell.
What size window display screen should I buy?
Start from the window bay, not the screen: most of the storefronts we do take a 55-inch display in portrait, and the window head height and the depth of the window bed are what decide whether anything bigger, like a 75, will fit. A 55 in portrait stands 1,253 mm (49.3") tall for an OM55B. A 75 in portrait is 1,703 mm (67") tall on an OM75A, so check the window head height before you order.
How far from the glass should a window display sit?
Close, but not touching. Leave room for air to move behind and in front of the panel, and keep the back of the window bay open to the store. Samsung rates the OM series for 0 to 40 °C, and a sealed bay on a sunny face can get hotter than that.
Can I see the screen from inside the store too?
Only the back of it, unless you buy the double-sided OM55N-DS, which has a second face pointed into the store. The other option is a second, ordinary indoor screen facing in, the way Janie and Jack pairs window OM55Bs with QM55Cs inside.
Does a window display work at night?
Yes, and it will be far too bright at full power. Schedule the brightness down after sunset in the panel settings or in your signage software so it doesn't glare at the street.
How do window displays get mounted?
Three ways: a floor stand in the window bed, a ceiling mount, or a cable hang. Janie and Jack uses floor stands; CBD Kratom hangs its OM55Bs on cables. Mounts are quoted per window because the right one depends on the ceiling and floor.
