Outdoor display questions
How many nits does an outdoor display need?
Plan on about 3,500 nits for a screen that sits outdoors in daylight, which is what Samsung's OH outdoor series runs at on Samsung's data, and that is seven times a 500-nit indoor signage screen and fourteen times a TV-class 250-nit panel. With no window glass in front of it, all of that light reaches the viewer, so 3,500 nits outdoors goes further than the same number behind tinted glass.
Is the Samsung OH series waterproof?
Samsung rates the OH46B and OH55A-S IP56, which means protected against dust and powerful water jets. That covers rain and a hose-down. It is not rated for submersion, and the panel still needs a mount designed to carry it outside.
How cold or hot can an outdoor display run?
Samsung lists the OH46B and OH55A-S for -30 to 50 °C (-22 to 122 °F), 24/7. That range covers most of the continental US. For desert sites that sit above 50 °C in direct sun, talk to us before you buy.
Does an outdoor display need Wi-Fi?
Plan on Ethernet. Samsung's data for both OH models lists a LAN port and no Wi-Fi. Run a network cable with the power when the electrician is there.
Can I use a window display outdoors instead?
No. The OM window series is built to sit behind glass and has no outdoor ingress rating. It is cheaper, so if the screen can live behind a window, use one of the OM models instead.
Is there a 75-inch outdoor model?
Samsung makes an OH75A, but it is not listed on the DisplayDetails store, so we can't show a live price. Call and we'll check availability and quote it.
Who installs an outdoor display?
An electrician for the power, plus a crew that can anchor a 36 to 46 kg panel to masonry. CrownTV quotes outdoor installs with both included. Start with the CrownTV installation page.
